Rachel Lorin: A Rock Girl in a Pop World
By: Isobel Bush
Rachel Lorin is a 23 year old singer, songwriter, actress, and model born in Atlanta, Georgia. Although she was born in the south, the singer feels she has a diverse history with music that was developed during her time in New York City. Beginning as a pop/dance artist, Rachel holds onto her pop roots while experimenting with an edgy-rock sound. With two national tours already under her belt, including a 2019 tour with her band “The Rachel Lorin Band”, she regularly performs at venues in NYC, LA, and across the US. Working alongside producer Kane Churko, Rachel is currently working on her new album set to be released next year. As a “rock girl in a pop world”, Rachel is ready to break through with her album that not only embraces the beauty in the world but also addresses issues that many young people face.
Rachel found herself in the spotlight at a young age as she began her modeling career at only 9 years old. At age 12, she beat out a group of several thousand kids for the opportunity to sing the national anthem at the US Open in New York. From there, she went on to be the youngest cast member in the world premiere of Disney’s first two High School Musical stage productions. She launched her career in 2012 on the reality show The Next Big Thing NY, a show based on the careers of young singers that aired nationally on Oxygen and E! Network in the United States along with various other networks around the globe. Her active modeling career has also led her to having appearances in national commercials, runways, print-ads, and a few films.
Throughout her career, Rachel has worked with various known producers and co-writers including Tony Harnell, lead singer of the rock band TNT, Stefan Altzar and Aleena Gibson, from Sweden, and Robert Venable, formerly from the band Evanescence. Her rock and roll sound sets her apart from other pop artists as she develops her unique, grungy flair. This is prevalent in her latest release Crazy House released in 2020 along with a dark, compelling music video portraying her slip from sanity.
