Maysoon Zayid is of Palestinian descent was born in New Jersey in 1974. She is an American actress and a comedian. Zayid suffers from Cerebral Palsy. Throughout her childhood she had always wished to be actress despite her disability. Zayid attended Arizona State University and attained a Bachelors of Arts in Acting.
Zayid is one of the first Muslim women to become a comedian in America and perform in Palestine and Jordan. Zayid is the co-founder and co-executive producer iof the New York Arab Comedy Festival. Because of Zayid’s hard work the festival has been able to continue on for over eight years now. Because women comedians are so rare in Palestine, Zayid is one of many few. Maysoon Zayid has appeared on many television series throughout her career such as Comedy Central’s Watch List, PBS’s America at a Crossroads: Muslim Comics Stand Up, CNN, HBO, As The World Turns, Law & Order, MTV, and many more. Zayid was also the headliner on the Arabs Gone Wild Comedy Tour and The Muslims Are Coming Tour.
Maysoon Zayid. Maysoon is releasing a book under Reese Witherspoon’s company Hello Sunshine and Audible called Find Another Dream. It is one of the first books to be released under Reese’s new company. The book is due out on October 31st.
Find Another Dream is Maysoon Zayid’s heavily self-centered comedic memoir. Zayid takes the audience on her crooked journey from being born to immigrant parents in the great state of New Jersey to tap-dancing on Broadway. The book explores scenes of disability, living with Cerebral Palsy, bullying, love, loss, and bigotry all told through the lens of comedy. If your dream turns into a nightmare, find another dream.
On October 18th 2019, Jane Fonda will present Maysoon with an award at the Women’s Media Awards along with Gayle King, Julie K. Brown and Zerlina Maxwell in NYC.
Maysoon can currently be seen on ABC’s General Hospital. She is known to most as a full time contributor on Keith Olberman’s show Countdown. She has appeared on 60 Minutes, 20/20, CNN, ABC News, and Al Jazeera, often talking about comedy, bullying, Islam, comedy, disability and pop culture. Although Zayid is busy with her career she takes three months out of every year to spend in Palestine. There she is the founder of Maysoon’s Kids. A scholarship set up by Zayid that is also a wellness program for disabled and wounded refugee children.
