OWN’s “Ambitions” explores the sexy, deceitful machinations of love, power and politics in America’s hottest urban mecca, Atlanta, Georgia and Mara’s character is in the middle of all the excitement. The Will Packer (LITTLE, BREAKING IN) produced series centers around the intense rivalry between formidable legal eagles Stephanie Lancaster, played by Givens and Amara Hughes, played by Essence Atkins (NBC’s “Marlon”), former best friends from college who find themselves adversaries in both their personal and professional lives. Mara portrays a mysterious relative of the Lancasters that comes into town in the middle of chaos, with unclear intentions. Produced, written and starring Mara, JUICY LADIES tells the story of ‘Angie’ who is struggling with her health, weight, and finding her self-worth, all while looking for love in all the wrong places. A true passion project of hers, the film stars Thurston, Joseph Dixon (NETFLIX’s “Lucifer”) and Gregory A Thompson (500 DAYS OF SUMMER). Having been a selection of the Langston Hughes Black Film Festival and selected to air on Aspire TV in their independent short film block, the film tells a genuine story filled with the laughs, the highs, and the lows that come with life and looking for love.
With a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Clarinet Performance, when Mara is not busy in front of the camera, she can be found in the classroom as an Instrumental Music Teacher, Band Director and Artistic Director in Atlanta, Los Angeles and her hometown of Detroit. Mara is a fiercely loyal advocate for keeping music/arts programs in schools and teaching the next generation and is a strong advocate for healthy living, self-care and being kind to yourself.
